Сельское хозяйство как одна из наиболее крупных отраслей является одним из приоритетных направлений экономики страны. Узбекистан обладает благоприятными природно-климатическими условиями для производства различных сельскохозяйственных, в том числе технических культур. Значительная часть посевных площадей, а под техническими культурами практически вся – это орошаемые земли, которые обслуживаются мощной ирригационной системой. В сельской местности проживает 63% населения республики. В Узбекистане более 30% внутреннего валового продукта, 35% трудовых ресурсов, а также основные валютные поступления приходятся на долю сельского хозяйства. Узбекистан занимает 6-е место в мире по производству хлопка и является 3 в мире по экспорту хлопка.
