SUDAN AgroFood + Packaging + Water Systems 2023

The SUDAN AgroFood + Packaging + Water Systems is an international trade fair for the Agricultural and Food Industry supported by the Sudanese Ministry for Agriculture amongst other important official institutions.



With approximately 40 million inhabitants, the Republic of Sudan is the fourth largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa. Current economic growth in 2017 is expected to be 3.2%, which is much stronger than forecast (Source GTAI) Since recent developments in lifting the 20-year-old economic embargo against the Republic of the Sudan, the Sudanese government has publicly announced to increase investments especially in the Agricultural and Food Industry, the second largest business sector in the country.

 

Agriculture in SUDAN

Agriculture represents about 40% of the Sudanese Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 80-90% of non-oil-export sales.

After Egypt, Sudan has the second largest irrigated area in Africa. At present, half of the agricultural production comes from irrigated areas however its potential is estimated up to 2.78 million hectares.

Sudan is the third largest exporter of sugar and a large producer of cotton. Further main crops are sesame, peanuts, sugar cane, dates, citrus fruits, mango, coffee, tobacco and meat.

There are high investment needs in all important business sectors such as Petroleum, Mining, Agriculture as well as Infrastructure. After the US sanctions were lifted - high attention value for providers of international machinery and spare parts.
