South Sulawesi (abbreviated Sulsel, Lontara) is a province on the southern peninsula of Sulawesi. The Selayar Islands archipelago south of Sulawesi is also part of the province. The provincial capital is in Makassar City. The province is bordered by Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi to the north, Bone Bay and Southeast Sulawesi to the east, the Makassar Strait to the west, and the Flores Sea to the south. The 2010 census estimated a population of 8,032,551 people which makes South Sulawesi the most populous province on the island (46% of Sulawesi's population is in South Sulawesi), and the sixth most populous province in Indonesia. In the 2020 Census this has increased to 9,073,509. The main ethnic groups in South Sulawesi are the Bugis, Makassar, Toraja and Mandar tribes. The province's economy is based on agriculture, fishing, and the mining of gold, magnesium, iron and other metals. a pinisi is a traditional Indonesian two-masted sailing vessel, still used extensively by the Bugis and Makassar people, mostly for inter-island transportation, cargo and fishing purposes in the Indonesian archipelago. One of the Provinces located in Central Indonesia will be present as the INACRAFT Icon which will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center Convention Center on March 1 – 5 2023. South Sulawesi also has a unique culture known as the "Lontara Aksara" in which letters were used at least from the 16th century AD to the early 20th century AD before their function was gradually replaced by Latin letters. This script is still taught in South Sulawesi as part of the local content, but with limited application in everyday life. We also apply this letter to the INACRAFT design.
