Pune is not new to industrialization, but over the last 10 years or so both the nature as well as the scope of it has changed. Pune has now seen a strong move towards digitisation of mechanical industries as the manufacturing sector has adapted to industry 4.0 – the next generation of manufacturing. Pune houses world’s biggest automobile, engineering and electronics and companies. Business – friendly industrial policies, infrastructure facilities, proximity o the coast and the availability of large talent pool have made Pune the country’s manufacturing hub.
An auto hub located near Pune city in Maharsahtra, Chakan houses industrial parks developed by Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The well-known auto industry names in the Chakan industrial belt include Germany based Volkswagen and Daimler along with Indian auto majors such as Mahindra & Mahindra and Bajaj Auto.
In addition to the auto OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), Pune has a range of Tier-1, Tier-2 and infrastructure suppliers, including Bharat Forge, among the top forging companies in the world and sandvik’s large cutting tools facility.
As automobile companies grow, it is natural that auto component industry flourishes in Pune.
